This weekend’s ride:
This Saturday, Feb 5, meet at my place at 9:30 for carpooling over to China Camp. Those who might meet us over there, we’ll probably arrive around 10:30, and we’ll be starting at the Miwok Meadows trailhead (not the Back Ranch trailhead where we’ve sometimes started). It’s near Chicken Coop Hill on the above-linked brochure.
China Camp is a nice 16km loop, almost all on wide singletrack, with one big climb (about 200 meters of climbing), and a long, gradual downhill after that. There are a few technical areas, but nothing that can’t be handled on a 36″ wheel; it’s great big wheel territory, and it’s pretty nice on a 24″, too. The ride is strenuous, but not particularly difficult; anybody who’s in decent shape can do it. Oak woodlands, tidal marshlands, with common sightings of deer, egrets, and wild turkeys. Definitely one to join in on!
Last weekend’s ride:
Joaquin Miller is at its best in the rain and mist, and Sunday’s ride was no exception; we wound up doing three loops thanks to Ashley’s encouragement:
