Mountain unicyclist on rocky trail ducking under an overhanging tree limb

It was a good roll

We had a beautiful day for riding up at Rockville. Spent way too much time sessioning Manzanita Trail (as always), had fun on Upper Tilley, and then headed over to the quarry to play around before heading home. I was wearing my California MUni Weekend t-shirt from 2003, which was probably the first time I’d ridden Rockville. And in all that time I’d never taken a serious injury on the uni. It was a good roll, but my luck ran out.

Choose Your Own Adventure MUni at China Camp

Dragon, Chris and I went over to China Camp for what's usually mostly a fitness ride. But we went all the way up to the missile platforms, where Dragon won Best Biff (he'd already won First Blood) but also nailed a really gnarly chute (with spectators!) Then for various reasons we all wound up taking different routes down.

California MUni Weekend training series

California MUni Weekend is up in Bishop this year (September 17-20) and it includes a climb to White Mountain Peak (14,252') so it's time to get training. I'll be running a training series with rides every weekend until then.

Two-sporter at Napa Skyline

We got a beautiful weekend up in Napa at Skyline Wilderness Park, pretty perfect temps for summer in the wine country. As the world has re-opened, the trails have gotten less busy, so we had plenty of space to mess around in the rock gardens and such.

SF Crosstown Trail traversal

The San Francisco Crosstown Trail celebrated its second anniversary this weekend, and as far as we know, no one had yet ridden it on uni. Obviously something had to be done about that.

Exploring NOSC

Dragon and I have done some exploring of the North Oakland Sports Center. Last weekend Bevan and I went up to check it out, and found some new cool stuff on a hero dirt day. Not really a destination riding spot but a nice connector.

Whipsnaking

Group rides have been pretty much off for the COVID era, but things are getting better, and riding with one or two peeps seems OK, right? New semi-local Adrian came by and I got to show him around the Whipsnake trails a bit. It was beautiful, and we only got crap from two Berkeley busybodies.

Street/Flat/Trials meetup

Well, COVID has really put a dent in our group rides, but California has just relaxed restrictions on socially distanced outdoor sports, which is perfect for a flatland, street and trials meetup. Sarah organized one for San Francisco's newest park, Crane Cove, and it turned out to be a beautiful day for it.

Gala at Rockville

Bevan and I went up to Rockville to crash the BTCEB Gala Ride. There had been some rain overnight, but the morning was gorgeous, really perfect MUni weather. Conditions were pretty perfect, and we messed around in the quarry for a while as both of us got lines we hadn't hit before.

Necropost from Fruita

Our friend Paco who we rode with in Fruita, CO last year put together a video of the trip and forwarded it on to us this week. It reminds us that Fruita is gorgeous riding. I need to stop whinging on lines so often, and for Dragon: Ouch.
